Catriona undertakes landscape design, planting design and consultancy work. The process for each job may vary depending on the scope of the project. Most design projects will work through the stages outlined below.

1. BRIEF:

First a meeting with the client to discuss their requirements and to get an initial feel for the site and its wider context. This forms the basis of a written brief from which further ideas develop.

2. SURVEY:

Before designing begins a detailed survey is carried out for each project. Existing planting, architectural style, aspect, soil type and views are noted and photographed. The essential character of the site emerges and ideas begin to take shape.

3. SKETCH PROPOSALS:

Once the brief is agreed and the survey complete, a conceptual framework is developed. Specific requirements and ideas are thought through and aesthetic and practical solutions are sought. The proposals are then worked up into visual sketches and or models for client discussion.

4. DETAILED PLANS:

After further discussion and development the final drawings and planting plans are completed. These will form the basis of the hard and soft landscaping. A schedule of works and detailed construction drawings may also be required to put the project to tender. Advice on landscapers, sourcing suppliers and plants is given.

6. HARD AND SOFT LANDSCAPING:

The landscaping stage is project managed to work through any issues that arise and to ensure the quality of materials and plants used on the project. Naturalistic planting is anchored by the hard landscaping. Careful soil preparation ensures the optimum health of plants.

7. MAINTENANCE AND CONTINUING DEVELOPMENT:

Projects may require continuing development over time so long term relationships with clients may develop. A maintenance plan is drawn up to ensure that the scheme evolves successfully.
